Twenty-Six Gasoline Stations, Myanmar

With the required apologies to Ed Ruscha, this work was made in the immediate aftermath of Myanmar’s first democratic elections in 2015 as the country began to open up to the outside world.  Without the uniform branding of the multinationals that Ruscha’s seminal work explored as America rose to become a global power, the gas stations of Myanmar, with it’s own oil reserves, were still untouched by the global giants.
